PJ Livesey wins praise for Bowdon hospital plans

DEVELOPER The PJ Livesey Group has won planning permission to convert the disused St Anne’s Hospital site in Bowdon into housing.

The restoration specialist gained unanimous approval gor its plans following an extensive consultation exercise with the local community, historians and planners, with the chair of Trafford Planning Dr Karen Barclay praising the firm’s approach as “a fantastic example of working with the community”.

PJ Livesey bought the building from Trafford NHS Tust in July last year. Its proposal will see all three Victorian buildings on the site, which is within a conservation area – retained and converted into 22 new properties.

Group development director James Woodmansee said: “We are all absolutely delighted that our plans for St Anne’s Hospital have been approved and pleased that the council acknowledged our efforts to work closely with the community to bring these beautiful buildings back into use as sensitively as possible.

“We would hope to start work in earnest next month.”

The PJ Livesey Group, based in Trafford Park, currently has four other
developments under construction – Didsbury Gate in south Manchester, The Cottonworks in Bolton, Alden Place in Holcombe and Kingsley Park in Frodsham, Cheshire.

It also has schemes underway in Huddersfield, Hertfordshire and Norwich and is actively looking for more projects across the UK. In the year to June 30, the firm declared a pre-tax loss of £3.9m but saw its turnover increase by 80% to £50.6m as it progressed with a number of schemes.
