Appointments: Amnesty boss joins Festival board & more

THE Secretary General of Amnesty International, Irene Khan, is among four new appointments to the board of the Manchester International Festival.

Ms Khan, who studied law in Manchester, is joined by Peter Salmon, the BBC executive overseeing the corporation’s move to MediaCity; Chris Oglesby, chief executive of Manchester property company Bruntwood and Joyce Hytner, director of arts consultancy Act IV.

Tom Bloxham, chairman of the Festival board said:“These four individuals represent a fantastic spread of experience from the arts, business, media and NGOs, and we are very fortunate to have them working with us. I know they’ll bring invaluable insight to the 2011 Festival.”

BARCLAYS has strengthened its North West with the appointment of David Westby as relationship director for the manufacturing sector covering the whole of Lancashire, Cumbria, Merseyside and North Wales for businesses turning over more than £25m.

With a banking career spanning 23 years, David Westby joins Barclays from Royal Bank of Scotland where he was a senior manager in the Liverpool Commercial Banking team managing a portfolio of larger property and commercial clients.

INspire, the North West charity incubator, has appointed two more directors onto its board. 

Walli Ullah of EMU Films and entrepreneur Vikas Shah will bring their business acumen and experience to the project which helps charities to grow by connecting them with skilled entrepreneurs and business leaders.

iNspire was founded by Manchester-based corporate lawyer Darryl Cooke of Hill Dickinson. Other board members include TV presenter  Lucy Meacock; Laura Wolfe, sales director at Out There Events and Trans-Pennine Express boss Vernon Barker.

ADVERTISING agency The Foundry has appointed Simon Broadbent as creative director.

The 44-year-old former Connectpoint creative director takes over from agency founder Kevin Murphy, who is to focus on his role as managing director.

Mr Murphy said: ‘This is exactly the appointment we need to take us to the next level. I’ve been an admirer of Simon for many years now, and the opportunity to add his talent and enthusiasm to our team was simply too good to miss.’

AON, the commercial insurance broker, has appointed Jayne Ward as client services manager for the marine team in Manchester.

Jayne, who has been in the sector for 19 years and has joined Aon from RSA Marine said: “This is a team that works together extremely well, and I hope to build on that and continue to improve the service our clients receive.”
