BBC North starts apprentice hunt

BBC North has started the hunt for entry level apprentices at its new MediaCity base in Salford Quays.

The broadcaster is looking to initially recruit 12 people to work in five departments – BBC Children’s, Marketing & Audiences, Technology Operations, Learning and HQ North – from September.

The scheme is open to applicants from the Greater Manchester area, aged 16 and over, who have left formal education. Anyone with – or without – GCSEs is eligible to apply. It hopes to recruit 100 people over the next three to four years.

The BBC is in the process of moving 2,300 staff to the new facilities. Radio 5 Live, sport, children’s, BBC Breakfast and the future media department are moving to MediaCity along with BBC Manchester.

Human resources director Ken Lee said: “This is a valuable training opportunity for the next generation of local talent. Offering jobs-with-training, this initiative is based on the traditional model of apprenticeship and has been specifically designed to attract people who would not otherwise think of working at the BBC.”

The closing date for the current apprentice roles is Friday, July 8. To find out more go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/jobs/north/apprenticeships.
