Call centre operator switches jobs from Mumbai to Burnley

NEW Call Telecom, an operator of outsourced call centres, is to open a new base in Burnley and switch traffic back from an operation in Mumbai, according to reports.
The Sunday Telegraph said that the firm will begin advertising for staff for its new Burnley site this week. The firm’s chief executive, Nigel Eastwood, is originally from the Pennine Lancashire town and has been attracted back by the fact that commercial property rents – at around £4 per sq ft – are now as cheap to rent in Burnley as they are in Mumbai.
Moreover, it said that workers in Mumbai are more inclined to move between call centre operators in pursuit of higher wages, whereas employees in Burnley were more likely to stick with the business for longer periods.
Staff at the call centre will receive minimum wage, although bonuses will be granted if targets are hit.
