Appointments: New partners at Deloitte and JMW; and moves at Sacco Mann; Brabners Stuart and Garrick

ACCOUNTANCY firm Deloitte has promoted five North West partners across a range of departments.

Simon Bedford, Peter Birch, Nigel Birkett, Gareth James and Steve Nuttall make up five of Deloitte’s 63 partner promotions across the UK this summer.

Simon Bedford is head of Drivers Jonas Deloitte’s Manchester office and leads the firm’s national economic development team.

Peter Birch is an audit service leader in Deloitte’s northern financial services practice, with his non-audit experience including due diligence and forensic investigations.

Nigel Birkett leads Deloitte’s debt advisory business in the North West, and most recently advised Betfred on raising £185m for its high profile acquisition of the Tote.

Gareth James has recently moved to Deloitte’s North West practice from Leeds, and is a partner in the Enterprise Risk Services (ERS) team.

Steve Nuttall is an international corporate tax specialist, providing advice to multinational groups on a wide range of UK and international tax matters.

MANCHESTER law firm JMW has appointed two new partners.

Keith Arrowsmith joins as partner and head of intellectual property from Ralli, where he was head of intellectual property and media.

Arrowsmith has previously provided advice for the first film produced at MediaCityUK. He has also advised the British Council regarding emerging cultural industries in Kenya and advised Nick Hornby’s charity the Ministry of Stories.

Mark Davies joins as a partner in corporate recovery and insolvency from national law firm DWF where he was partner for over 10 years.

LEGAL recruiter is expanding its locum offering to take advantage of demand for high-quality legal experts.

Alison McKee and Mary Nowell have joined Sacco Mann as locum consultants following the recruiter’s move into new offices in Spinningfields.

With a degree in law, Nowell has worked in interim legal recruitment for over six years operating across the commerce, industry and private practices sectors. McKee has specialised in recruitment since 2004 and has in-depth expertise in the locum and contract markets.

CORPORATE finance adviser Brabners Stuart has appointed Paula McGrath to its team.

The 42-year-old is leaving PKF where she was corporate finance partner for five years to join Brabners Stuart as partner.

Former Brabners Stuart director Jon Else, 34, has also been promoted to partner.

Else qualified as a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers before joining The Steve Stuart Partnership (TSSP), now Brabners Stuart in May 2003.

LANCASHIRE law firm Garricks has appointed litigator Tom Smith to its dispute resolution team as it continues to see a rise in commercial disputes.

He joins the Blackburn-based firm as an associate solicitor after five years with Haworth and Nuttall Solicitors, also based in Blackburn.

He will advise commercial clients on a wide range of contentious matters with a particular focus on contractual issues, property disputes, professional negligence, company and shareholder disputes and insolvency.
