Johnson Cleaners continues its green transformation

DRY cleaning company Johnson Cleaners has signed up to the ‘10:10’ project, which aims to get UK businesses working towards a 10% cut in the UK’s carbon emissions in 2010.

The company, part of Runcorn-based Johnson Services Group, says it has implemented energy reduction targets for all branches, as well as its ongoing coat hanger recycling scheme, initiatives to minimise non-essential travel, paper-free customer communications incentives, and reusable garment carriers.

The company also said it ha re-launched a total of 80 branches under its official GreenEarth and interiors, which use an eco-friendly liquid silicone cleaning solvent.  It costs between £10,000 and £15,000 to change each shop.

Just over 60% of Johnson Cleaners’ 500 branches now offer GreenEarth cleaning, and the company plans to continue the roll-out of new signage to reflect this throughout 2010.

Paul Ogle, managing director of Johnson Cleaners, said: “The nationwide programme of transformation across our entire estate is a major feature of our new business model and we’re proud to announce that we’ve made excellent progress in 2009. We’re certainly on track to meet our 2012 target, with 80 branches re-launched in the last 12 months alone.

“The investment we’re making in GreenEarth demonstrates our ongoing commitment to investing in the future of the business but also to the environment where our staff and customers live and work.”
