Textile chief awarded in New Year honours list

THE CHIEF executive of Burnley textile company Panaz and chief executive of the Lowry Centre in Salford Quays are among North West business people to be recognised in the New Years Honours List.
Tony Attard, chief executive of Panaz, which has twice won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, received an OBE for services to the textile industry and international trade.
Julia Fawcett, chief executive of the Lowry Centre in Salford Quays also received an OBE, for services to the arts in the North West.
Manus Adamson, chairman of the Adamson Group, a Lancashire-based, family-owned construction business received an MBE. He has also been the executive chairman of the Construction Confederation for many years and received his award for services to the construction industry.
Others in the region to be recognised include Fiona Devine, professor of sociology at the University of Manchester (OBE); Lauran Chartburn, principal and chief executive of Bury College (CBE); and Geoff Challinor (MBE), curator of the Anson Engine Museum in Poynton, for services to industrial heritage.
Nationally the New Year Honours saw only one banker receive an award – former UK and Europe chief executive of HSBC, Dyfrig John was made a CBE following his retirement in March.
