Chester jeweller loses its sparkle

ONLINE jewellery retailer Nuttalls of Chester has ceased trading.

Liquidators from the Manchester office of Baines & Ernst Corporate were appointed to the company on June 21. A new report filed by the firm states that it owes almost £170,000 to creditors, with almost £100,000 of this being money that was owed to its customers.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Regulatory Services division had begun investigations into the six year-old firm prior to the liquidator’s appointment and it said that its enquiries are ongoing.

Executive Member for Community and Environment, Councillor Lynn Riley, said: “As a result of the company going into liquidation there may be customers who are awaiting delivery for items that they have ordered or a refund.

“Legally, when a limited company ceases trading, claims against them can no longer be made as the business no longer exists.

She advised customers who placed orders worth more than £100 on their credit cards to contact their credit card company as soon as possible about a refund under the Consumer Credit Act. Those who paid by devbit card or other method are being advised to register their claim with Baines & Ernst Corporate on 0161 216 8632.
