‘Positive’ discussions over Everton’s stadium
EVERTON has held ‘positive’ talks with Liverpool City Council over the future of the football club’s stadium, it has been revealed.
The talks followed the government’s decision last year to reject the club’s plans for a new home in Kirkby which is in neighbouring local authority area of Knowsley.
It is understood that the city council – who met with the club on Monday – want to keep the club within the city.
A joint statement said: ‘A positive meeting took place between Everton FC and Liverpool City Council about future stadium options within the city boundary, and more discussions have been scheduled for the near future.’
The planned move to Kirkby, which collapsed in November, would have seen the club move to a £400m purpose-built stadium in partnership with Tesco.
