Ultrasound provider merges with East Midlands rival

A provider of ultrasound services across the East Midlands has merged with a Manchester medical diagnostics company in a deal that will expand the footprint of both firms.

Manchester-based Diagnostic Healthcare has revealed the merger with Excell Ultrasound, a firm which provides ultrasound services in East Midlands and East of England.

Diagnostic Healthcare operates a network of centres and mobile units across the UK providing MRI, Ultrasound, bone density and health screening services working closely with the NHS and private providers.

Excell Ultrasound, established over 11 years ago, operates out of Peterborough and provides mobile ultrasound services in community-based settings such as doctor’s surgeries and community hospitals.

Excell Ultrasound has 30 staff. The deal will increased Diagnostic Healthcare’s headcount by around 18%.

Liat Karni, managing director of Diagnostic Healthcare said: “Diagnostic Healthcare has a track record of providing ultrasound service successfully in many Clinical Commissioning Groups and NHS Trusts. We believe that with more impact by leveraging Diagnostic Healthcare’s scale and resources the companies will greatly expand and enhance the ultrasound services which will bring significant benefits to customers in new areas.”

Teresa Simms, sales and marketing director of Excell Ultrasound said: “We are delighted to merge with Diagnostic Healthcare as there is a huge synergy between our companies and we believe that together we can offer enhanced diagnostic services in key areas of the UK. We feel we have a strong future ahead of us as we look to expand into new geographical areas and offer customers a larger portfolio of diagnostic services.”

In 2013, Diagnostic Healthcare received investment from The North West Fund for Biomedical, allowing the company to take on new staff and expand its business. Financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Investment Bank, The North West Fund is now fully invested.
