More houses planned for Blackpool Pontins site

PROPERTY firm Northern Trust has gained planning approval to build a second phase of 73 houses on the former Pontins site in Blackpool.
The company gained approval for the second phase of development at the southern end of the former Holiday camp following a decision in May last year to allow it to build 275 homes on 22 acres of the northern part of the site.
It said the proposed new homes would regenerate the former holiday camp and improve the quality and attractiveness of the surrounding area.
A spokesperson for Northern Trust said “This long-awaited decision provides much needed certainty and will make a valuable contribution to the acknowledged housing deficit in Fylde.
“It is hoped that, subject to confirmation from The Secretary of State and completion of a Section 106 agreement, that work will commence on this important gateway site within the next 12 months.
“We look forward to working closely with Fylde Borough Council and our development partners to ensure a viable, high-quality scheme is delivered as soon as possible.”
Northern Trust will now begin talks with housebuilders over a potential sale of the site.
