£415K cash injection to improve quality of life on Liverpool housing estate

Stonedale Crescent

The quality of life of people living on a North Liverpool housing estate could be transformed after it received investment to kick start a major estate regeneration programme.

Social landlord Cobalt Housing has been awarded £415,000 in Government funding to look at ways to regenerate the Stonedale Crescent estate in Croxteth.

Cobalt, working with Liverpool City Council, will use the funds to begin consultation with the local community in Stonedale Crescent and prepare a master plan and future proposals for the estate.

Peter Mitchell, chair of Cobalt Housing, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with the people living on the Stonedale Estate to find out the best way to improve people’s lives.

“For too long we have been frustrated by lack of progress, but with the help of this funding, we will be able to engage fully with local people about the future of Stonedale and the surrounding areas.

“Cobalt is working closely with local residents and Liverpool City Council to make sure some informed decisions can be agreed on the way forward.”

The funding package is part of a £32m Estate Regeneration Fund being distributed to local authorities and housing associations across England to speed up the building of thousands of new homes.

The aim is to generate rundown estates and turn them into thriving communities.

After successful engagement with local communities, a total of 105 estates will benefit from the funding, to be used to speed up regeneration schemes in their early stages.

It will also help address projects and give local authorities access to skills to ensure high quality regeneration.

Housing & Planning Minister Gavin Barwell said: “Estates regeneration must be locally-led, and this £32m fund will help breathe new life into estates throughout the country. It will help more ordinary working people have the security of a decent place to live.”
