Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire has invested £6.8m into new, eco-friendly, double-decker buses equipped with smart technology.

The buses are being rolled out on the company’s Liverpool to Kirby 20 and 21 Services and are best-in-class, highly-sustainable vehicles that meet the latest emissions criteria.

The new buses bring Stagecoach’s total investment in its fleet to £17m over the last 18 months.

The investment enables the company to operate a more sustainable, cost-efficient fleet that provides passengers with a comfortable, eco-friendly mode of transport.

The new fleet features free USB charging points, leather seats free wi-fi for passengers.

The fully-equipped buses will also include audio CCTV as a standard provision for passenger safety. The new buses are comparable to the latest hybrid-technology equipped buses and operate advanced Start/Stop technology – which helps to save fuel and drastically cut emissions.

Rob Jones, Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire’s managing director, said: “We’re very pleased to be upgrading and investing in our fleet to ensure we’re able to continue to offer passengers the very best, fully-equipped, sustainable buses.

“These spacious double-decker buses prioritise passenger comfort with large leather seats and also include USB electronic charging points so our passengers can stay charged up, despite being on the move.

“Ensuring we’re regularly updating and improving our fleet means we’re able to operate a more sustainable, efficient and cost-effective service.

“This has wider positive implications for our team, our passengers and the environment and we’re very pleased to have this great new fleet operational and on the roads.”
