Further 12,000 sq ft snapped up at Cheshire science hub

Alderley Park

A further 12,000 sq ft of space at a Cheshire site which has become a major science hub has been snapped up in a flurry of lettings.

Manchester Science Partnerships (MSP) has announced that two new companies have relocated to Mereside campus at Alderley Park while an existing customer has expanded.

Econic Technologies has expanded at the site to more than 7,000 sq ft, which includes the relocation of its operations from London’s Imperial College incubator, with additional laboratory and office space required to realise its growth strategy.

The company – which has recently received a major Horizon 2020 SME award – is an innovative and fast -growing chemical technology company that develops and commercialises novel catalyst technologies to build carbon dioxide into polyurethanes and other polymers.

New customer, medical communications and advisory company Bioscript Group, has taken 1,258 sq ft to accommodate its regulatory writing division as part of an ongoing expansion.

Bioscript Regulatory provides regulatory communications expertise to international pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and the team are already building new partnerships with several neighbouring biotech companies at Alderley Park.

Also joining the MSP community is EM Resist, which has taken 3,992 sq ft of laboratory and office space. The company specialises in developing, manufacturing and exporting materials used in the semiconductor industry. Additionally, the company is setting up an open access electron microscopy and sample preparation suite at the site for both internal and external customers.

Alderley Park boasts more than 100,000 sq ft of self-contained workspace in its recently renovated Parklands building. A further 185,000 sq ft will soon be available, as the re-development programme at the park continues at pace.

Dr Chris Doherty, managing director at Alderley Park, said: “We are naturally delighted to welcome innovative new companies to the Park, but it’s equally gratifying to see our existing customers flourish and expand their operations. We have the capacity and flexibility to support this kind of growth, and we’re pleased to see Econic Technologies doing so well.

“Part of our strategy to transform Alderley Park into a successful multi-occupancy site for like-minded businesses is to communicate our credentials as an internationally renowned destination for enterprise and innovation to the wider business world.

“For a bioscience company, the draw is clear. But the opportunity to work in high quality, purpose-built commercial office space surrounded by 400 acres of scenic parkland is one that holds universal appeal, and this is being borne out in the interest we’re receiving from businesses across multiple sectors.”

This latest announcement follows the news earlier this year that innovative drug development company, Cyprotex, has completed its relocation to Alderley Park, taking 25,000 sq ft of office and laboratory space to accommodate its 106 UK members of staff.
