Sunseekers set to make airport busiest since 2012

More than 750,000 passengers are set to stream through Liverpool John Airport as the summer school holidays kick in, starting this weekend.

Traveller numbers at the airport are up by 5% compared to the same time last year, with 10 new routes available for Summer 2017.

The Airport believes this is likely to be their busiest summer since 2012 with direct flights operating to more than 60 destinations and the majority of passengers heading to the sunshine resorts on the Mediterranean.

Upwards of 25,000 passengers are due to depart from the airport this weekend alone.

Spanish resorts including Barcelona, Palma, Malaga and Alicante are expected to be amongst the most popular once again with high volumes of passenger traffic also expected on flights to destinations such as Rome and Faro on the Portuguese Algarve.

Robin Tudor, head of PR at LJLA said: “The Airport is recognised as the region’s faster, easier, friendlier airport and with holidaymakers choosing to take advantage of the many great value for money direct flights from here, we expect this to be one of our busiest summers for some time.

“Whilst queue times at the airport are still some of the shortest around, we do advise that passengers should allow plenty of time to pass through the airport at this particularly busy time as well as leaving plenty of time for their journey to the airport too.”
