High-profile property developer charged with fraud and forgery

Well-known Liverpool property developer Nigel Russell has been charged with fraud and forgery offences.

Russell, 56, who will appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on August 15, has a portfolio including landmark sites in the city including the Richmond Hotel in Hatton Garden and the Grade II-listed St Andrew’s Church on Rodney Street – bought from Liverpool Council for only £1.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: “We can confirm a 56-year-old man has been charged with fraud and forgery offences.

“Nigel Kevin Russell, 56, from Duddon Road, Tarporley, Cheshire has been charged with fraud and forgery offences relating to four real estate developments within the Liverpool area.”

Police said the their investigation was linked to schemes on Gradwell Street in the city centre, St Joseph’s on Woolton Road, a flats development in the old Hatton Garden fire station and the Paper Mill on Henry Street.
