Alchemist gets green light for first East Midlands venue

Alchemist, the chain of bars that are part of Manchester-based Living Ventures, has been given the go-ahead to fit out the interior of 11 King Street in Nottingham.

The granting of the permission for internal alterations was the last hurdle in bringing the chain to the city.

Alchemist will move into the site of the former Tropeiro and Hard Rock Cafe restaurants in a deal brokered by boutique commercial property agency Box Property.

The news comes at the end of a prolonged saga that included Alchemist being turned down for a drinks licence for 11-15 Pelham Street.

Nottingham City Council licensing panel said the new bar was planned in a saturation zone, which means no new bars could open unless it could be proven that they would not affect crime rates in the area.

The deal to take on 11 King Street will be the first Alchemist bar and restaurant in the East Midlands. Others are located in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Alderley Edge and Newcastle.

Simon Potts, managing director, Alchemist Bar and Restaurants, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing The Alchemist to the vibrant city of Nottingham.

“We love the location, in the heart of the city and feel our great all-day dining offer and theatrical cocktails will be a popular addition to the city’s excellent food and drink community.”
