Rising artist Walne taking her work into the community

Young entrepreneur Jasmine Walne has launched a shop in Salford to sell and showcase her work as well as running workshops for  people interested in developing their skills.

Some of her clients include Bruntwood, the Whitworth, HOME, Manchester Museum and Manchester International Festival.

Originally from Skipton, North Yorkshire, Walne, 22,  moved to Manchester in 2013.

There, she graduated from Manchester School of Arts in June with a first class honours degree in textiles and has opened a shop in Walkden town centre in Salford with the help of landlord Derwent Estates and the Albert Gubay Foundation after winning a scholarship through the university.

Selected to exhibit her work at New Designers in London in June, Walne is regarded as one of the best design graduates from around the UK.

Many different products can be bought, from design-led greetings cards to prints and original artwork.

Large scale artworks, for example, have been acquired  by Bruntwood for its offices. The Manchester International Festival chose two individual pieces of artwork for them to be created for one of their Creative50.

Prints and artworks can be bought at the new shop and the space will be used to run art classes and workshops for the community of the surrounding community.

People are encouraged to try something new and develop their skills in art and design. Previous workshops have received great response and will expand to reach a wider audience.

“The people of Walkden seem very excited by what I am creating here and I want to bring something new to the area and make the community proud of the space,” said Walne

An opening event will take place tomorrow (October 7) from 11am to 3pm. The first timetable of art classes and workshops, along with the new collection of cards, will be released that day.
