A food hall and restaurant known as a purveyor of home grown food and drink will expand its restaurant after securing six figure bank funding.

The Provenance Food Hall & Restaurant in the Bolton satellite town of Westhoughton will use NatWest funding to triple the size of its current restaurant capacity, after acquiring a neighbouring unit. The 3,000sq ft space sits next to the current venue on Market Street.

It will take the dining establishment from a 46-cover restaurant to a 150-plus cover restaurant, when it opens in ten months’ time.

An additional 10 jobs will be created as part of the expansion, increasing Provenance’s staff base to 35.

The business was founded by husband and wife Brian and Karen Tinniswood together with brother Rob Tinniswood, in June 2015.

They purchased the unit which was once home to their grandparents and parent’s family toy business, “Tinniswoods” between 1952 and 1999, and their team have already gained inclusion in the prestigious Waitrose Good Food Guide for the two consecutive years that it has been open.

Provenance Food Hall and Restaurant offers a practical alternative to the supermarket, selling good quality, fresh and locally-sourced produce. It combines a butcher, bakery, greengrocers, deli, tea rooms and Provenance restaurant, headed by multi award-winning chef Lewis Gallagher.

Brian said: “Our team, led by Karen and Lewis, share a passion for bringing great food to the people of Westhoughton, all of which is sourced from local producers and suppliers.

“Our restaurant is fully booked most nights, so when the unit next door became available it was the perfect opportunity for us to look at expanding our business.

“NatWest helped us access the finance needed as well as advice and support throughout the whole process. We can’t wait to open the new space and give more diners the chance to sample our award-winning dishes.”

Jamie Grimshaw, relationship manager at NatWest, said: “Provenance is a real hit in Westhoughton and it’s great to see a business which supports the local community doing so well.

“The family will transform a derelict site into a thriving business, creating new jobs in the process. I wish them all the best of luck.”
