£35m regeneration scheme moves forward

Developer Langtree has sealed a deal with retail and forecourt operator Euro Garages for the first plot to be developed at its Hollinwood Junction scheme on the M60, a joint venture with Oldham Council.

The redevelopment of the former Roxy cinema site will see a new petrol filling station, with a sandwich counter, bakery and small retail offer completing the £2m investment.  More than 30 jobs are expected to be created in this first phase.

Overall, the Hollinwood Junction project will see 760 new jobs created and will incorporate retail, leisure, employment and housing uses.

Neal Biddle, group development director at Langtree, said: “We promised early progress and that’s what we’ve delivered.  This is a key gateway to Oldham town centre benefiting from direct access to the M60 and interest is very high among end users.  We’ll be announcing more deals in due course.”

Cllr Jean Stretton, leader of Oldham Council said: “It’s great to see that progress is being made at Hollinwood Junction. It is clearly attracting plenty of interest from big high-street brands, even at this early stage. I look forward to seeing work commence on site next year.”

Tom Jeremiah, senior planning manager at Euro Garages, added: “We are really excited to be bringing the first plot forward for development at the former Roxy cinema site.  We will be delivering a high quality development and offer at this vacant site which we hope to open in 2018.”

A planning application for this first phase of development was recently submitted and if approved work is expected to start on site in Spring 2018.

Langtree was advised on the deal by Colliers International, JLL and FDR Law.  Euro Garages was advised by DWF Solicitors.
