Fit-out project hits perfect note for musicMagpie

National refurbishment and fit-out specialist Overbury has delivered a modern, dynamic headquarters for musicMagpie at Stockport Exchange.

Overbury was appointed to carry out an eight-week fit out at the iconic grade A office scheme, which was developed by Muse in partnership with Stockport Council.

Due to musicMagpie’s rapid expansion, the project needed to be completed quickly to ensure a smooth transition from its smaller premises.

The online entertainment retailer relocated, on the scheduled completion date, from nearby Hazel Grove to take 10,000sq ft on the first floor of the prominent office location.

The move has coincided with the company’s 10th anniversary and comes after its co-founders, Steve Oliver and Walter Gleeson realised the company needed larger, higher specification offices with excellent transport infrastructure to enable the business to grow further.

“We were tasked with creating an inspiring, agile working environment that would help attract and retain the best talent in the region,” said Philip Westwood, director at Overbury. “These new offices were a significant leap for the company and so key to the brief was the need to ensure the workspace stayed in line with the company’s culture.”

“musicMagpie were looking for a professional yet personal experience and one that ensured that the finished result was in line with their brand.

“Features such as the graphics were integral to the overall design. We incorporated the graphics from the Joy Division album cover, ‘Unknown Pleasures’ which was rated the most iconic album cover of all time.

“We drew inspiration from Manchester’s music scene, bringing in Stone Roses and Hacienda style stripes, as well as using Pacman and Space Invaders’ graphics, which nodded to the company’s gaming offer.”
