Galliford Try set to invest £9.35m in over-55s scheme

Planning permission

Regeneration business Galliford Try Partnerships has submitted a planning application for a first-of-its-kind over 55s residential development at the site of former council offices in Northwich, Cheshire.

Galliford Try says it is creating a new form of concept housing, redefining accommodation for the baby boomer generation.

The landmark development represents an estimated £9.35m investment and will feature 70 new, five-star apartments which will bring, boutique hotel-styled living for the over 55s to Northwich for the first time.

Working with architects Pozzoni, Galliford Try’s innovative proposal seeks to enhance Northwich town centre, redeveloping the prominent former council office site and bringing the dilapidated buildings back in to use.

Galliford Try aim to redevelop the site to introduce a new concept living space to Northwich which will include a connected restaurant facility for resident use and café which will be open to the wider public making the site a town centre hub.

The development will echo the existing traditional design of Northwich town centre with a contemporary brick interpretation of the historic black and white timber framed buildings of the area incorporated into the design.

The site for the new proposal covers half a hectare on the corner of Watling Street, a key town centre location and entrance point to Northwich high street. The council offices currently on the land closed its doors for the last time in 2011 and have since fallen into disrepair.

Brendan Blythe, managing director for Galliford Try, said “This is the type of residential development that Northwich needs. We are helping to bring a dilapidated, eyesore building at the heart of Northwich back into residential and community use.

“The site is a key gateway to the town centre and a lot of effort has been put into the scheme to ensure it is designed to reflect both the existing character and future ambitions of Northwich.

“It is an excellent location for all the town has to offer and will undoubtedly bring economic benefits to the local area creating jobs and helping to attract vibrant and high spending over 55s to the town.”
