Nightmare journey home for passengers from London

Rail passengers travelling in and out of London Euston from the North West faced hours of disruption yesterday.

West Coast main line users were warned by National Rail not to travel while work to repair damaged overhead wires near Wembley in north-west London continued.

Further disruption occurred when trains from London Paddington were held up for about 90 minutes because of a broken down freight train.

The snarl-up affected services to Manchester, Liverpool Lime Street, Birmingham New Street and Glasgow Central.

At 10.30pm last night National Rail tweeted that “trains to and from London Euston are no longer being disrupted”.
