Aberla appointed to carry out £6m of M&E work at new towers

Local Blackfriars

Warrington-based contractor Aberla has been appointed to carry out £6m mechanical and electrical work on the new Local Blackfriars development in the heart of Salford.

The scheme will consist of two towers totalling 380 apartments townhouses and top-floor penthouses, and includes a gym, café, cinema, launderette, a landscaped piazza area and commercial accommodation on the ground floor.

Aberla has been appointed by Domis Construction and is programmed to continue until the build fully completes at the end of 2019.

It is the second successful partnership between Aberla and Domis following the renovation of the famous Black Friar pub, the cornerstone of the wider Salford development, earlier this year.

The high specification M&E works will include full heating and electrics, including lighting, air-conditioning, ventilation system, security and fire, throughout the entire scheme. In addition, a 30kWp roof mounted solar PV system will be installed to assist in reducing communal energy costs and carbon savings.

Aberla has seen significant growth since the appointment of a new senior management team and financial backing by Maven Capital Partners, on behalf of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, back in August this year.

Aberal operations director Mark Ingham said: “This impressive scheme further develops our residential M&E portfolio and we’re thrilled to be working with Domis again to continue our relationship. The business has gone from strength to strength over the past six months and winning this scheme rounds off a really positive end to the year.”

Domis managing director Lee McCarren said “Following a significant tender period we
are happy to announce the appointment of Aberla as M&E contractor due to the team’s experience, confident approach and can-do attitude.

“The construction works at Local Blackfriars are already progressing at pace and this M&E appointment continues to push forward the next phase of works on site.”
