Law firm announces new leadership at Manchester offices

Amanda Callaghan

Law firm Browne Jacobson has appointed health partner Amanda Callaghan as its new head of office for Manchester, with education partner Dai Durbridge taking the role of deputy.

The appointments follow a strategic review by the firm last year which recommended establishing new office leadership roles across its Birmingham, Exeter, London and Manchester offices to further strengthen the existing management structure, drive regional growth and build strong relationships with clients and local organisations.

Callaghan joined Browne Jacobson in 2013 to launch the now established health team in the Manchester office.

She is recognised nationally as a leading individual in the defence of clinical negligence claims and in addition she leads a North West Mental Capacity Act (MCA) forum, contributing to discussions and training for local authorities, clinical commissioning groups and NHS trusts about the legal aspects of MCA and DoLS.

Durbridge heads up the firm’s education team in the North West and advises schools, academies and colleges on frontline education matters, including school admissions and exclusions, parental complaints, disqualification from childcare settings and GDPR requirements. He is also a leading expert on safeguarding matters.

Callaghan said: “Both Dai and I feel privileged to be appointed the firm’s first Head and Deputy Head of Office for Manchester.

“The office has been one of the fastest growing across our network and we want to ensure this growth continues.

“Our recent move to No.1 Spinningfields and the arrival of Jonathan Edwards to head up our banking team in the region is a strong indication of the scale of our ambitions.

“Over the next few years we will focus on further expanding our service offering in the North West whilst continuing to place the needs of our people and our clients at the heart of our business.”

Iain Blatherwick, managing partner at Browne Jacobson, added: “I would like to congratulate both partners on their appointment which will further strengthen our existing management structure and ensure the Manchester office has a strong voice both regionally and at the heart of our business.

“We have ambitious plans to grow our five offices over the next few years and the new heads and deputies will play an integral part in helping us to deliver that strategy.”
