North West clubs top table of big spenders on agents’ fees

The North West clubs are the biggest spenders when it comes to agents’ fees – according to figures released from the Football Association.
Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United take three of the top four spots in the spending table.
Liverpool were the biggest spenders splashing out on £26.8m on agents.
The club’s major signings last year included Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, Mohamed Salah from Roma and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.
Chelsea came in second with £25.1m and they were closely followed by the Manchester clubs.
Big spenders Manchester City paid out £23.4m while their cross-town rivals coughed up a total of £18m.
In total agents walked away with £257m, an increase of £37m on the previous 12 months, with most of the money coming from the coffers of the Premier League clubs.
The figures cover transfers from February of last year to the close of the transfer window in January.
One of the lowest spenders was Burnley who spent £3.3m while Everton splashed out £12m.
The two North West clubs in the Championship, Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End, were not big spenders.
Wanderers spent just £223,909 and their Lancashire rivals just over £1m.
Premier League clubs spent a record total of £1.9bn on transfers over the 2017-18 season, according to accountancy firm Deloitte.
