RBS to close city centre branch due to lack of customers

A city centre bank is to close its doors after just five people a week used the branch.
The Royal Bank of Scotland has closed a number of branches as part of a programme of cost-cutting.
The bank has made no secret of the fact it is changing its business model as a result of changing habits among its customers.
And according to the Manchester Evening News the bank has now taken the decision to close its branch in Spinningfields.
New regulations designed to boost competition, the popularity of internet banking and declining footfall in branches has led to a string of closures.
When the RBS’s results were made public chief executive Ross McEwan announced athat the bank was shifting its focus to become “digital first”.
The RBS has confirmed it is closing the branch on Hardman Boulevard and is transferring staff to St Anne Street.
Staff are also moving out the Spinningfields Square offices and are moving to offices on Deansgate.
The bank said that no staff are being made redundant as a result of the move
A spokesman for RBS told the MEN: “As we become a simpler, smaller UK focused bank and as we encourage more flexible ways of working, we now require less office space.
“We will be exiting our Spinningfields Square office by the end of 2018. In parallel to the exit of Spinningfields, we’ll be investing in and improving the working environment for colleagues in Hardman Boulevard.
“We do not anticipate any redundancies as a result of this decision and our customers will not experience any disruption as a result of these changes.”
