One of North West’s best known hotels goes into administration

Etrop Grange

The stylish Etrop Grange hotel, near Manchester Airport, has been put into administration.

It continues to trade as normal and is now up for sale.

Last month its sister hotel, the Best Western Samlesbury, near Preston, was put into administration after a winding-up petition by HMRC in March.

It is understood that Manchester Terminal 2 Hotel, the company behind the 64-room Etrop Grange, called in administrators Duff & Phelps on April 25.

Duff & Phelps administrators are also handling the sale of the 86-room Best Western Plus Samlesbury.

Matt Ingram, joint administrator with Duff & Phelps, said: “Etrop Grange is one of the best known hotels in the North West with a long, established reputation.

“The hotel remains open for business and is trading as normal whilst we seek a buyer.

“The administrators are keen to stress that all bookings – for weddings and other receptions for example – continue to be honoured and customers should not be concerned.

“More broadly there is a lot of confidence in the UK hotel sector, which performed well in 2017 and mirrored property investment in general.”

He added: “Driven by a weakened Sterling, the growth in ‘staycations’ and improved infrastructure developments – not least in and around Manchester Airport – we believe that the future remains bright for Etrop Grange.”

Etrop Gange and the Best Western Plus Samlesbury are owned by Squire Hotels, which also operates the 84-bedroom Hydro hotel in Windermere in the Lake District. It is not affected by the administrations and continues to trade as normal.

It was acquired by Squire Hotels in November 2014 for a sum close to the guide price of £3.75m.

Etrop Grange is a Georgian mansion outfitted with period decor and lies one mile from Manchester Airport and 9.7 miles from Manchester city centre.

The hotel also offers meeting rooms, including four boardrooms, and event facilities for up to 200 people.

Manchester Airport’s hotel offering is undergoing a period of strong investment.

Last week TheBusinesDesk.com reported the delivery of a 280-bed Holiday Inn and a 262-bed Ibis Budget in Airport City Manchester, located next to Terminal 2.

Further to the creation of these two hotels, Airport City Manchester received planning consent in February for the creation of a 375-bed 4-star hotel and a 254-bed 3-star hotel, on a site located next to Manchester Airport’s transport interchange.

As a result, this £180m Airport City hotel district will become home to four new hotels by 2021, providing 1,171 new hotel rooms within the Airport City North footprint and supporting the creation of around 500 jobs.
