Squire Hotels buys Etrop Grange

THE Etrop Grange Hotel near Manchester Airport has changed hands.
It has been sold by the Berkshire-based Vineyard Group to Squire Hotels, a new business linked to Chris Eddlestone, a consultant at law firm Squire Sanders who leads the firm’s hotel and leisure group and founded the Annual Hotels Conference.
Although they share a name there is no link between the law firm and the hotel business.
Squire Hotels, which bought the Preston Swallow at Samlesbury in April, is planning a full refurbishment of the 64-bed hotel.
The value of the sale was not disclosed but Colliers International, acting for the vendors, said it went for close to a guide price of £4.95m.
Etrop Grange is a grade II-listed Georgian country house originally built in 1780 by school teacher William Moss.
It first opened for business in November 1985 as a fine dining restaurant on just the lower level and was slowly converted into a hotel over the next 13 years with a £3m refurbishment.
Mr Eddlestone, a spokesman for Squire, said: “We are delighted to bring Etrop Grange in to the Squire Hotels group. Etrop Grange is a first-rate hotel and wedding venue with an excellent reputation – under our ownership we will improve every aspect and take it to a whole new level.”
