Joinery specialist’s designs bring cheer to new micropub

The bar of the Tap & Vine

Project and joinery manufacturers JSJ UK has transformed a former insurance brokers and craft shop in Penwortham into a new micropub, with ‘rustic and industrial’ accents.

The Tap and Vine is the first full bar design and fit out scheme for the Lancashire-based team of craftsman, whose client list includes Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Frankie and Bennys and the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

The £70,000 scheme needed to create a relaxed atmosphere for the local community to come together and enjoy quality drinks, great food and good conversation.

Preston-based JSJ UK’s bespoke design comprises a rustic feel with a modern edge, creating an open plan space packed with reclaimed scaffolding boards, worn timber, chunky metals, leathers and pendulant lights.

Every piece of furniture and fitting, including the 4.5m reclaimed-look bespoke wooden bar, was bespoke manufactured by JSJ UK.

The team also project-managed the six-week on-site refurbishment from start to finish and delivered the installation to ensure the interior was finished to a high standard.

Founder and JSJ UK managing director, Jack Smith, explained: “We wanted people to be met with a friendly and relaxing environment as soon as they walked in and the materials, colours and lighting that we chose play a big part in this.

“The design also needed to work for all of Tap and Vine’s customers and create atmosphere throughout different times of the day.

“This scheme was a labour of love and it was great to help a local couple turn their dream venture into a reality.

“We involved every part of the business in the project, including CAD design, bespoke joinery manufacturing, installation and site management.”

Tap and Vine landlords, Jason and Debbie Colles, added: “JSJ UK’s attention to detail was impeccable and the team put us first in all the decision making, including providing material samples and continuing to tweak and change the scheme to our requirements.

“It was a delight to see our vision come to life and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.”
