Speke Food Depot

Two hundred new jobs are to be created at a food distribution centre in the Speke area of Liverpool.

Bidfood, which distributes food to the catering industry, is planning to open the new centre.

The wholesaler has a range of clients including hotels, restaurant chains and NHS trusts.

The firm’s new distribution centre is being built at the Liverpool International Business Park.

The new temperature controlled depot will be built on on a five acre, purpose-built site.

The new facility is due to fully operational in just over 12 months time.

The depot will be served by a locally-based fleet of HGVs to distribute products from the new centre.

The new depot is part of a multi-million pound investment by Bidfood to expand its distribution network.

Norman Wemyss, Chief Operating Officer at Bidfood, said: “This distribution facility further signals our continued commitment to delivering local service excellence.

“Our ethos is to deliver great food, product innovation and excellent service to all of our customers, and importantly to support the communities in which we operate.

“By delivering from depots that are closer to our customers, we are much better placed to achieve this.

“The addition of another significant purpose-built site in the region will enable an even more flexible and efficient service to our customers, and will certainly help to reduce road miles and carbon emillions.”
