Motorists warned to avoid M56

Motorists are bring warned to avoid the M56 in Manchester this morning following an accident.

The motorway has been closed eastbound between Junction 3 at Northenden and Junction 1 at Sharston due to a collision.

A Highways England spokesperson said a diversion is in place.

The spokesperson added: “Exit at J3 and take the A5103 (Princess Parkway) northbound. Join the M60 clockwise at J5. At J6 exit the M60 and turn around at the roundabout to take the M60 anti-clockwise. Rejoin the route at M60 J4/ M56 J1.

“Road users intending on using this section of road are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journey and to consider alternative routes (if possible).”
