Popular South Manchester venue to close its doors for good

Mary and Archie

A popular bar and café in South Manchester has announced it is closing its doors for the last time.

Mary and Archie is situated on the bustling Burton Road in West Didsbury and has been a popular spot for the last seven years.

The owners of the bar confirmed the closure saying that they are concentrating their efforts on a second venue in Chorlton.

The news was announced in a message in the venue’s Facebook site.

The message said: “Attention all! After seven brilliant years in our little corner spot on Burton Road we have to announce that it is now time for us to move on.

“It has been an absolute pleasure serving the people of Didsbury and beyond and we feel privileged to have had those years to do that.

“We have been fortunate enough to meet and work with so many fantastic people over the years and it really will be a very emotional goodbye from us. We will be closing our doors at number 200 Burton Road on 30th July.

“We hope that you can join us in celebrating 7 fantastic years and see us out with a bang for our final weekend of service starting with a big old knees up on Friday the 27th of July.

“It is not the end for Mary & Archie, we will be continuing to grow our Chorlton site as well as expanding on some exciting new ideas. So, watch this space!

“We’d like to take this opportunity to say a humongous thank-you to all our staff and regulars, we love you – you are what made us.”

A spokesperson for the business said: “The area has changed an awful lot since we opened seven years ago. We just feel like it’s not quite where we belong anymore.

“We’re doing really well at Chorlton and we’re planning to do something more with the business.

“We really want to celebrate the seven years in Didsbury because we have a lot of regulars and a lot of people are sad to see us go. We want to say thank you. We have had a lovely time and got to know some lovely people.”
