Appointments: MCR banks on Smith; Deloitte & DTZ

FORMER banker Paul Smith, who joined corporate restructuring firm MCR to set up its debt advisory unit, has been promoted to partner.

Smith, a popular and well-networked member of the Manchester business community, joined MCR in January 2010 after 25 years in banking, latterly with Bank of Scotland Corporate.

He will  join the partnership formally on September 1 and will be MCR’s 16th partner across its three offices in  London, Manchester and Birmingham.

Andrew Stoneman, managing partner at MCR, said: “Paul joined us to launch our new Debt Advisory team and since that time he has played a key role provided funding and business solutions to hundreds of small to medium sized companies throughout the UK.”

DELOITTE has made three promotions within its corporate finance advisory team in the North West.

Director Claire Frangou has taken on national responsibility for corporate relationship management within the corporate finance advisory business. Oliver Tebbutt has been promoted to director while John Breheny makes the step up to assistant director.

Deloitte latest round of partner promotions that saw Nigel Birkett, who is head of debt advisory in the North West and part of the CFA team, being made partner.

Paul Lupton, partner and head of corporate finance advisory for the UK regions, said: “The promotions recognise some of the hard work and achievement of the team and demonstrate our continued investment in our people to produce the future leaders of Deloitte.”

DTZ in Manchester has appointed Daniel Kelly  to work as part of its North West corporate real estate management (CREM) team .

Kelly, who previously worked as assistant park manager for property consultancy Goodman, joins a team of five and will assist with all aspects of estates management.

Margaret Fletcher, associate director at DTZ Manchester, said: “Daniel is a brilliant addition to the team and will help reinforce CREM’s ability to ensure excellent service delivery to all our clients.”
