Photolink founder fashions new web venture

FASHION photographer and entrepreneur David Walter is launching an new online venture, www.littleblackdress.co.uk

The portal and affiliate shopping site has gone live today with a goal of becoming a leading online fashion hub by this Christmas.

Walter, creator of Manchester-based Photolink Creative Group, said: “This is a really exciting step for us. At Photolink we’ve created websites and films and done fashion shoots for other people, but now we’re doing it for ourselves.

“This is something I was looking at in the first wave of dot.com – and I actually lost quite a bit of money on, as the dot.com bubble burst just as we were getting up and running properly.

“We’ve obviously been talking to people in the fashion business in the run-up to the launch and the response has been hugely positive.  We have a superb team of writers and are about to appoint an editor.”

Littleblackdress will earn its revenues by taking a commission from goods purchased via the website, but in time may evolve to be fully transactional, Walter said.

The website describes itself as a “hybrid of fashion magazine and online portal” and will give readers the latest news from the world of online fashion retail. Much of the content will be featured around the little black dress – a item in many women’s wardrobes.

Brands from All Saints to ASOS and designers spanning Alexander McQueen to Vivienne Westwood feature on the site, which also features films of what the dresses look like in reality.

The site’s first photoshoot featured renowned Miami-based model Mala Bryan, who Photolink flew in from the US for the shoot,.
