Bulk of Ordsall scheme unaffected by fire, says LPC

MANCHESTER-based developer LPC has said that a fire which took hold at its £50m Radclyffe Park scheme at Ordsall in Salford last night has not affected the bulk of the scheme.
Crews from Greater Manchester Fire Service were called out to the development at the Junction of Trafford Road and Phoebe St in Salford just after 1am this morning after the blaze took hold in a new block duplex apartments currently under construction.
Some 50 firefighters were on call to tackle the blaze in a bid to prevent it spreading to nearby buildings and 30 houses were temporarily evacuated.
However, LPC said in a statement today that a new supermarket handed over to Morrisons for its internal fit-out last week and a Travelodge hotel building which has recently topped out are both unaffected by the blaze.
“We have not been able to fully assess the damage as of yet, however it is apparent that there has been significant structural damage caused to 30 apartments in a small area of the site that were at the early stages of construction,” the company said.
“Fortunately, there were no injuries and the fire was contained and did not spread to other buildings on the construction site.
“A full investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway by Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service. We would like to express our thanks to the effort and speedy response of the fire service,” the company said.
