Manchester is to get a new four star hotel

Circle Square, Manchester

Manchester city centre is to get a new four star hotel.

The Dalata Hotel Group has announced it is planning to open a 276 room hotel next to the Circle Square scheme on Oxford Road.

The chain has signed an agreement to the lease the hotel which is being built alongside the mixed-use regeneration scheme on the former BBC Oxford Road site.

The deal has been agreed with CEPF II, a fund administered by Catalyst Capital.

The hotel is due to open in 2021, with construction subject to the scheme being granted planning permission from Manchester City Council.

The hotel will have a bar, restaurant and meeting room facilities and Dalata have signed a 35-year operating lease.

The hotel will be the company’s third hotel in Manchester in what chief executive Pat McCann called a “great location”.

The firm operates a Clayton Hotel at Manchester Airport and is developing a site under the same brand on Portland Street.

The announcement has come as the Irish company reported improved revenue for the six months to 30 June 2018, with income rising from €163.3m to €180.6m.

Pre-tax profits were also up from €32.7 to €35.4m.

Pat McCann said: “2018 has been very positive to date for Dalata through a combination of strong earnings growth and the opening of a significant number of new hotel rooms.

“I am looking forward to the remainder of 2018 when we will strive to ensure that the strong momentum of the first eight months continues, as well as being fully prepared for 2019 and the years beyond.”
