Salford tech firm signs m-commerce deal with WorldPay

A FLEDGLING technology firm based in Salford Quays has signed a deal with payment processing giant WorldPay which will allow it to offer a “quick pay” service via mobile apps.
Following the deal, App55 can develop mobile apps for clients that will allow customers to buy goods securely via the web or a smartphone by entering a single password.
App55 founder Richard Beaton said the deal means that it can produce branded apps for firms of all sizes offering a single-password payment process.
It added that its partnership with Worldpay, which was part of banking giant RBS until a £2bn sale last year, would allow it to grab a greater share of an m-commerce market predicted to grow to handle 12% of all online transactions by the end of next year.
“Businesses are looking to optimise online sales and exploit the possibilities emerging with the growth of m-commerce. Now they have a pay-by-password and mobile checkout capability supported by WorldPay who have real strength in depth and are leading the way in mobile payments”, said Richard Beaton, CEO of App55.
Gabriel Hopkins, head of e-commerce products at WorldPay, added: “There is no doubt that m-commerce is a key growth area. It is vital for retailers to keep pace with demand by introducing new and innovative payment mechanisms in line with customer expectations.
“The new solution will offer simple and convenient payments, which could prove instrumental in driving future revenues.”
