Northern Quarter café opening second branch at prime Deansgate site

Federal Cafe

A café in Manchester’s Northern Quarter is to open a second site on a key site on Deansgate.

Federal, which is on Nicholas Croft, is moving to a second site which is twice the size of the current café.

The cafe specialises in Australian and New Zealand-inspired brunch dishes such as French toast, smashed avocado on sourdough, acai bowls, corn fritters, and banana bread with mascarpone.

The plan is to extend the offering in the second branch.

Owner and managing director Claudio Ribeiro said: “We only have a very small kitchen in the Northern Quarter and the quality of our food is a huge testament to our chefs.

“I’m happy with the concept we’ve created and we want to continue with that – just a bit bigger.”

The Manhatta exterior

The café will be next door the recently opened cocktail bar Manahatta.

Claudio said: “As a business owner I wanted to make sure the business was well-established and that the team we had working for us was perfect.

“We knew that we couldn’t expand our existing site so we decided it was time to open a second one on the other side of town.”
