Work is under way on a £2.5m veterinary hospital in Cheshire.

Woodcroft Veterinary Group is transforming a former office block in Cheadle into a state-of-the-art hospital after outgrowing its current premises.

The veterinary hospital will be one of the most modern, high-tech facilities in the North of England, providing 24-hour emergency care facilities and an expansion of Woodcroft’s specialist referral services.

Plans for the 11,000 sq ft hospital in Atlas House, Birdhall Lane, include 10 consulting rooms, six operating theatres, an intensive care unit, ultrasound and endoscopy facilities, CT scanner and MRI scanner, while the practice’s dental, orthopaedic and emergency out-of-hours service will also transfer to the site.

Building work started this month and is expected to be completed by September, with the hospital due to open in October.

The opening of the new hospital will mark the relocation of Woodcroft Vets’ hospital in Queens Road, Cheadle Hulme, with 50 team members, including vets and veterinary nurses, transferring to the new site.

The admin department will remain at Queens Road.

The project is being funded by VetPartners, which is made up of some of the UK’s most respected and trusted small animal, equine, mixed and farm veterinary practices. Woodcroft is one of VetPartners’ flagship practices.

Mark Allington, VetPartners’ North West business development director, said building a new veterinary hospital had been a long-held dream of the practice and had been made possible by investment from VetPartners.

“Woodcroft has completely outgrown its existing building in Cheadle Hulme as it is an old Victorian building. It meant the practice was unable to expand services for which there is demand, including ophthalmology, cardiology and surgery,” he said.

“Woodcroft had looked at the new site before becoming part of VetPartners and were unable to proceed due to the cost, but it has been made feasible by becoming part of the group.

“This new hospital is much-needed by staff and patients as we need better facilities for the standard of care we provide and will allow Woodcroft to offer surrounding VetPartners practices with a better service.

“It means we can take more referral cases, as well as emergency cases.”

Woodcroft Vets provides veterinary care for 15,000 clients throughout Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

VetPartners comprises 95 small animal, equine, mixed and farm practices across the UK.
