Hotels and leisure operator launches recruitment drive

Signature Living's 30 James Street hotel

Signature Living, the hotel and leisure company famous for Liverpool’s football-themed Shankly and Titanic-themed 30 James Street hotels, is looking to recruit up to 1,500 roles.

The mix of full- and part-time positions come as the business expands its portfolio in Belfast, Cardiff, Liverpool and Preston.

Many of the roles will be available at new hotel developments opening this Summer, including the George Best Hotel in Belfast and the Dixie Dean Hotel in Liverpool, opposite the Shankly Hotel site.

Manchester United and Northern Ireland football legend George Best was born in Belfast, while Dixie Dean is celebrated as Everton FC’s all-time record-breaking centre forward.

The company’s recruitment requirements have also been boosted by the launch of the second phase of the historic Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff and the second Shankly Hotel in Preston, where former Liverpool FC manager Bill Shankly won the FA Cup with North End in 1938. Preston honoured him by naming one of their stands after him.

A head office expansion and a new Signature Living cruise ship, which will be located in Spain, have also opened up a variety of vacancies.

Hospitality jobs on offer include bar, restaurant and concierge staff, reception roles, wedding and events co-ordinators, as well as a range of managerial positions.

Head office posts in construction, sales and social media will also be available.

An apprenticeship and mentoring scheme, which will be personally led by the company founder, Lawrence Kenwright, will also see 100 school-leavers given a start on the career ladder.

Liverpool-based Signature Living, which was founded in 2008, currently employs 850 people and approximately 650 sub-contractors.

The new jobs will grow the company’s UK total workforce to 3,000.

Lawrence Kenwright said: “Signature Living is entering an era of dynamic growth and with that comes major investment into recruiting people to help us maintain our position as the UK’s most innovative and fastest-growing hotel developer and operator.

“I am particularly pleased about the expansion of our apprenticeship programme which will be focused on young people not currently engaged in employment, education or training.”

Hotel openings planned by Signature Living this year include: Dixie Dean Hotel (Liverpool), George Best Hotel (Belfast), Waring Hotel (Belfast), Rainhill Hall Hotel and Wedding Venue (St Helens), Shankly Hotel (Preston), Cavern Walks Hotel (Liverpool). The company will also launch The Funchal cruise-liner in Spain.
