A Manchester based architect and planning practice has helped secure planning permission for British Salt to build a new £7.2m state of the art boiler plant at its Cheshire based Middlewich site.

The ground-breaking project, which is being delivered in British Salt’s 50th anniversary year, represents the largest single investment in the company since its inception.

Scheduled to become operational in March 2020, the new, best-in class energy efficient boiler plant will generate heat and electricity for the company’s 24-hour production process.

Richard Thompson of architects Fletcher Rae said: “British Salt is an important contributor to the Cheshire economy and the investment in the new boiler plant will see them future proofing its Middlewich operations.

“Having previously worked with Tata Chemicals Europe on its Winnington site, the parent company to British Salt, we understand how important it is for this project to deliver the highest possible energy efficiency as well as meet stringent environmental standards.”

Richard Thompson added: “This high quality of the design of this scheme aims to set new precedents in industrial architecture and create a benchmark for future expansion of the company.”
