Businesswoman killed in holiday hire car accident

Zara Crane Davies

A businesswoman who founded and ran a consultancy that helps people back into work has died in a car crash in Crete.

Zara Crane Davis died along with her passenger Luke Hall when the hire car she was driving crashed. A third person was seriously injured in the accident.

The 41-year-old lived an extraordinary life and was named mentor of the year in 2018 by the Northern Power Women organisation.

She had turned her life around after being convicted of murder in 2003. The mother of two stabbed her neighbour in London following a row and was jailed for life.

Zara made headlines after she was involved in the first ever lesbian wedding ceremony to take place in prison.

After her release she returned to Manchester and set about changing her life.

She founded SocialInvestor, a consultancy that supports and helps people who are socially excluded into aspirational, sustained employment.

She had 20 years’ experience in sales and 14 years in the Criminal Justice System, Zara described herself as a “straight talking connector, doer and champion of diversity and inclusion, driven by equality, Northern power, soul and talent”.

She was also chief operating officer of the Resume Foundation.

Campaign group Northern Power Women has posted a tribute to Zara on its Facebook site.

The statement said: “Our thoughts are with the loved ones of Zara Crane Davies and all involved in this tragic accident.

“Zara was a vibrant, pioneering supporter of the Northern Power Women family and she will be greatly missed.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the families of three British people involved in a car accident in Crete and are in contact with local authorities.”
