Plans approved for ‘five-star’ youth hostel

Manchester-based Just H Architects has secured planning approval for the redevelopment of YHA Bryn Gwynant, which lies in the heart of Snowdonia National Park.

It is hoped that the designs for the former hunting lodge and adjacent coach house will create what is only the second 5-star youth hostel in the UK, bringing the facility in line with modern guest expectations while maintaining a commitment to its heritage and position within the surrounding landscape.

The planning decision is the latest in a 15-year history between the YHA and Just H Architects, which has incorporated almost 100 projects, covering approximately 700,000 sq ft of space on schemes throughout the UK from Whitby in the North East to Perranporth in the South West.

Throughout the course of this relationship Just H have introduced designs for the YHA which focus on the use of bright colours and modern touches, while drawing on original features and characteristics to create accommodation that meets the requirements of all travellers, whether individuals staying alone or families and larger groups travelling together.

Toby Tyler, from Just H Architects, said: “The YHA has an extensive track record in delivering successful refurbishment projects and sustainable developments and approval for this latest scheme represents another great opportunity.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with the YHA and helping to develop their portfolio even further.”

YHA projects completed by Just H include new-build accommodation such as the 44-bed Boggle Hole in the North East, designed to replace the previous hostel with a modern, sharp design to silhouette the horizon, as well as renovations such as Black Sail in Cleator Moor, a smaller 16-bed, rural retreat recognised by George Clarke in his ‘Amazing Spaces’ series.
