Bauhaus given green light for roof terrace

Orchard Street Investment Management has secured planning permission to add a spacious roof terrace to its Bauhaus office scheme, located on Quay Street in central Manchester.

Sitting 33.5m above ground level, the roof garden at Bauhaus will offer tenants a unique, open-air space in which they can hold lunches, informal meetings, fitness classes, private functions and events.

The roof terrace has been designed in line with the IWBI’s WELL Building Standard, for which Bauhaus is targeting a gold certification. Bauhaus is set to be the first refurbished building in the UK to promote wellbeing.

The space lends itself to a range of facilities that meet the WELL criteria, with the design incorporating spaces for exercise and relaxation, socialising and engagement with nature.

The terrace will feature a metal pergola, artificial grass, living walls, trees, biodiverse planting with integrated seating and tables, as well as break-out pods.

Sarah O’Connell, asset manager at Orchard Street, said: “We are thrilled to have secured planning permission for the addition of a roof terrace at Bauhaus.

“We see this as the finishing touch to the repositioning of this striking asset, which already benefits from a co-working business lounge, extensive cycle and shower facilities, high speed fibre connectivity and efficient floorplates.

“The roof terrace’s addition will also enhance our WELL certification, ensuring a focus on the health and wellbeing of our occupiers and creating a workplace that optimises occupier efficiency.”

She added: “We are excited to move onto the next phase of this redevelopment and to see the result of this exceptional space.”
