Conservative Party confirms Manchester conference will go ahead

The Conservative Party has confirmed its conference in Manchester will go ahead next week.

Doubt had been cast on the four day event taking place after the Supreme Court’s ruling that Boris Johnson’s prorogation of Parliament was illegal.

Jeremy Corbyn’s speech to the Labour Party Conference in Brighton was brought forward a day after MPs were recalled back to the House of Commons.

There were concerns that the four-day conference at Manchester Central would be cancelled as a result of the political turmoil an uncertainty.

The conference is scheduled for Sunday until Wednesday with thousands of delegated descending on the city.

Police have been carrying out security sweeps around Manchester Central for several weeks in preparation for the conference.

Chairman James Cleverly confirmed in a tweet on Tuesday that the conference will go ahead.

He wrote: “Lib Dems used their conference to say they would revoke article 50.

“Lab used theirs to decide not to decide their view on Brexit.

“We’ll use ours to set out our positive vision for the country outside the EU.

“Of cource #CPC19 is going ahead – look forward to seeing you all in MCR.”
