The North West branch of the Institute of Directors is launch a new LGBT+ Directors Network next month.

The new network has been formed to encourage a wider support network which embraces the influence and impact LGBT directors offer the community.

The network is being launched at an event and dinner, organised by Matt Haworth, co-founder of Reason Digital and Claire Ebrey, regional director of IoD North West.

Matt Haworth said: “We are delighted to unveil this new network, which will support and celebrate the LGBT+ leaders and directors in our region.

“While there is generally a lot of support for members of the LGBT+ community, it’s something still quite rare in business; there is a distinct lack of influencers and leaders promoting themselves, which means that we don’t always have obvious role models out there.

“Our network will celebrate and promote LGBT+ leaders and directors, commending the great work they’re doing across the North West region and beyond.”

Claire Ebrey said : “The IoD is the UK’s longest-running organisation for directors from all sectors, shapes and size of organisation, and we exist to help our members become the best Directors they can be.

“We recognise that, with the best leadership, business is a positive force in our communities and society – creating quality jobs, improving opportunities, and making our regions and nations better places to live and work.

“And we know that diversity at the top of an organisation can drive hugely positive results – from increased revenues to greater innovation and productivity. Yet there are still so few Director role models from the LGBT+ community. We hope to celebrate the diversity we have now, as we strive to support the directors of the future.

“The LGBT+ Directors Network will have its first meeting on 22nd October. It will be a fantastic opportunity for current and new members to meet, exchange ideas and to discuss the potential of this fresh and exciting group as we shape our thinking and take the initiative forward. We welcome anyone to join us on the evening as we champion great people and great ideas.”
