A Wigan-based company has set up a new training base which it says will set the standard for all home installation technicians.

Product Care offers a goods delivery service for customers, including installation, and removal of old household appliances.

It says its Matchstick Men Group Training Academy is part of its ambitious plans, including its recently introduced repair or replace service for lettings and property management companies, as well as landlords looking for cost-effective repair or replacement of large household appliances.

The firm currently employ 34 home delivery technicians at its Hindley Green headquarters, as well as a further hub in Daventry, Northampton.

The training academy will ensure that all of the company’s home delivery technicians go through intensive theory lessons, as well as competency-based practical training covering all aspects of product delivery, installation and repair to the highest standard.

It says the academy has unrivalled facilities to allow employees to get the most out of their training, including fully-functional kitchens with areas for wet installation, hard-wired installation, safe isolation and the testing of electrical circuits along with built-in installations.

There are additional areas dedicated to electrical dead testing as well as examples of plumbing and pipework.

Managing director Darren Veevers said: “It’s our aim to deliver on a ‘right first time’ philosophy, providing a high-quality, value-added service for every customer.

“This means not only delivering a first-rate product but also ensuring that each despatch is on-time, convenient and provides customers with a white-glove fitting service that’s second to none.

“We have a brilliant team of home delivery technicians and look forward to seeing them all utilise the training academy.

“It’s a brilliant addition to the business to have our own teaching facility on-site and our training will allow each employee to develop their career with Product Care.”

Senior trainer, Warren Rogers, said: “The academy is a unique opportunity for home delivery technicians to enhance their skill-set and develop their career.

“The training modules will be carried out with new and existing employees and will set them apart from industry peers. We’ve thought of everything in the design of the academy as the fitted kitchen sets even include different door widths, steps and various obstacles that our technicians may encounter at every stage of delivery and installation.”
