Cussons Technology

A mechanical and engineering firm that was founded almost 150 years ago has gone into administration with the loss of 40 jobs.

Salford firm Cussons Technology was founded in 1876 and specialised in educational technology and manufacturing.

It supplied mechanical engineering and research equipment to universities, laboratories, technical institutes and training establishments across the globe.

The firm trades from leasehold premises with 54 staff, of whom 40 have been made redundant today.

Patrick Lannagan and Conrad Pearson of Mazars LLP have been appointed joint administrators.

Patrick Lannagan said: “Unfortunately the company has experienced cash flow difficulties which have led the directors to take the difficult decision to place the company into Administration.

“The company has a strong skill set in the niche area of marine hydrodynamics complimented by a longstanding world recognised established brand name in the educational technology sector.”

He added: “With regret we have had to make a number of redundancies today but we are continuing to trade with the reduced workforce, in order find the best solution for all stakeholders.

“We will be writing to all creditors over the next few days but would encourage anyone with an interest in taking over the business and assets to contact us”.

The company grew as a result of the expansion of engineering teaching, particularly in the UK and Europe.

In 1964 Cussons Technology joined forces with Ricardo Consulting Engineers to expand the educational range and Introduce automotive research equipment and facilities for universities and Industry.

Cussons became a world leader in education, research, test and measurement.

The Cussons, K&R Marine Hydrodynamics Division was founded in 1997 following the acquisition of Kempf & Remmers GMBH.
