Insolvency trade body appoints new duo in North West

The North West branch of the trade body for insolvency and restructuring professionals, has two new faces at the helm.

Allan Cadman has become regional chair of the R3 organisation while Jean Boldero has become deputy chair.

Allan, who is also a partner at Poppleton & Appleby in Manchester, takes over as chair from Paul Barber of Begbies Traynor, who has completed his term in office.

Allan said the profession would play a key role in helping firms to adapt to the post-Brexit landscape.

He added: “After years of uncertainty, corporate insolvencies are now at their highest level for seven years and although we have left the EU, it is still unclear what shape Brexit will take.

“Certainly, there may be some shockwaves in store, while technological disruption and environmental issues will further add to the pressures.

“As professionals, our role is to intervene to save struggling firms and jobs wherever possible.”

He said he would also like to see better training for entrepreneurs. “With more people starting their own business than ever before, we need to find ways to give them the skills they need.

“It is surprising how many SMEs get into trouble because of simple errors. Improving business skills would support this new spirit of enterprise and strengthen our regional economy.”

Jean Boldero, a restructuring lawyer with Addleshaw Goddard, said recruitment and training would be a key priority in her new role as deputy chair. “Many people have left the industry in recent years but with insolvency cases rising, there will be a growing need for our skills.

“Attracting new recruits and building our skills base will be vital to our role in supporting North West businesses in the challenging years ahead.”
